Shrewsbury obverse. Oxford. A bold central strike and delightful old grey cabinet tone.

Charles I (1625-1649), silver Crown, 1642, Oxford mint, provincial issue, Shrewsbury obverse, m.m. Pellet/Two Pellets. Obv. King on horseback facing left, crowned holding sword, plain groundline, Shrewsbury plume in field behind. Rev. Declaration in two lines at centre between ruled lines, date below, three Oxford plumes above, mark of value below middle plume. 30g, die axis 4h (S.2946; North 2405). A couple of minimal flan stress marks and a die flaw to reverse, nonetheless pleasing to the eye, a bold central strike and delightful old grey cabinet tone, without doubt worthy of the finest Charles I cabinet. Almost extremely fine and rare in this condition.
