Cnut (1016-1035), silver Penny, 1024-1030, Lincoln mint, moneyer Aethelmaer, pointed helmet type, BMC XIV. Obv. Bust facing left, wearing pointed helmet and holding sceptre. Rev. Voided short cross, annulet in centre, each quarter with annulet enclosing pellet. 1.06g, die axis 9h (S.1158; North 787). Demonstrating a pleasing deep grey old cabinet tone, with hints of underlying lustre, the portrait bold with just a single peck mark on the helmet, an impressive and choice piece. Almost extremely fine.
