Cnut (1016-1035), silver Penny, 1024-1030, London mint, moneyer Aelfwerd, Pointed Helmet type, bearded bust variety, BMC XIV. Obv. Bearded bust facing left, holding sceptre and wearing pointed helmet. Rev. Voided short cross, annulet in centre, each quarter with broken annulet enclosing pellet. 0.94g, die axis 3h (S.1158; North 787). Bar the peck mark on the kings neck, a problem free example, boldly struck on good quality metal, lightly toned and lustrous. Almost extremely fine and a rare high quality example of the bearded bust.
