Edward the Elder Imitation Coinage (c.918-924), silver Penny, Uncertain mint, Anglo-Viking (Danish East Anglia), coinage imitating Circumscription cross/Horizontal-Trefoil 1 (HT1), BMC ii. Obv. Small cross pattée at centre within inner circle, legend + EΛRDEΛEDΛEX surrounding. Rev. Three small cross pattée across centre dividing DΛ MO/RIOBI (R inverted) over two lines, trefoils above and below. 1.58g, die axis 12h (North 649 for type; SCBI 26 (East Anglia), 179-81 variant). Centrally struck on a broad flan, with an even deep, dark tone, a pleasing coin. Almost extremely fine.
