George III (1760-1820), copper pattern Penny, 1797, Birmingham, early Soho, cartwheel coinage, edge plain. Obv. Laureate bust facing right. Rev. Britannia seated facing left, wearing a plumed helmet, date in exergue, inter-linked olive branches below in legend. 17.72g, die axis 12h (Peck 1100). Light scratches behind head and a tiny spot in the reverse field, else a very pleasing piece. Extremely fine and extremely rare.
