Stephen (1135-1154), silver Penny, c.1150-1154, Castle Rising mint, moneyer Rodbert, substantive royal issues, Cross and piles type, bmc. 6. Obv. Crowned bust facing left with sceptre. Rev. Cross fleury and pile and triple annulets in angles, legend reads +RODBERT:ON:RIS 1.14g, die axis 12h (S.1281; North 879; EMC 1300.0184 (Wicklewood Hoard) for very similar example and possible die duplicate). Parts of legends weakly struck as is common for this issue, darkly toned with a pleasing portrait. Good very fine or better for type and very rare.
