Victoria (1837-1901), silver Proof Crown, 1847 (mdcccxlvii), ‘Young Head’ coinage (1838-1887), ‘Gothic’ type, edge UNDECIMO. Obv. Young crowned ‘Gothic’ bust with ornately decorated dress facing left. Rev. Crowned cruciform shields, cross of the order of the garter in centre, emblems in angles, date in legend in roman numerals. 28.27g, die axis 6h (S.3883; Bull 2571). A few trivial marks under magnification, some light friction to high points, the reverse with a lovely light tone to the recesses. A choice example of this desirable type. Virtually as struck.
