George III (1760-1820), gold Guinea, 1787, early coinages, ‘Spade’ type, 7 strings to harp with just 6 hearts clearly visible, edge milled vertically. Obv. Fifth laureate head facing right. Rev. Crowned shield of arms, date split by crown. 8.34g, die axis 12h (S.3729; EGC 711). Lightly toned, some light hairlines, otherwise a nice example, this the first year of issue for the ‘Spade’ reverse type. A bold very fine.
