Charles I (1625-1649), silver Sixpence, 1638-1639, Nicholas Briot’s coinage (1631-1639), second milled issue (1638-1639), m.m. anchor/anchor, edge milled vertically. Obv. Crowned Briot late bust, facing left wearing dress with plain, broad lace collar. Rev. Cross fourchée over shield of arms within beaded inner circle. 2.90g, die axis 7h (S.2860; North 2306). Tiny graffiti above shield on reverse, nonetheless a nice example with only trivial flan adjustment marks to the obverse, the old cabinet tone an attractive steely grey with golden hues, the portrait pleasing . Almost extremely fine and scarce.
