Aethelred II (978-1016), silver Penny, Southwark mint, moneyer Aelfric, Crux type, BMC IIIa. Obv. Bare-headed bust facing left, holding sceptre. Rev. Voided short cross, pellet at centre, CRVX in angles. Housed in N/A. 1.38g, die axis 3h (S.1148). A few peck marks, otherwise of sound metal and struck on a full flan, an even deep tone to both sides with delightful matching rainbow highlights, pleasing in hand. Good very fine.
