Anglo-Saxon (695-740), silver Sceat, Early Anglo-Saxon period (c.600-775), Continental issues (c.695-c.740), Series D, type 2c, variety 3f. Obv. Disintegrated radiate bust reduced to geometric shapes. Rev. Cross pommée at centre, pellets in each of the four quarters, annulet with central pellet below 1.00g, (S.792; Sceatta List 8-30 (plate coin); SCBI 69, 178 (this coin)). A stunning example, lightly toned, the devices bold and sharp, a desirable and intriguing coin with much eye appeal. Choice extremely fine and very rare.
