Catuvellauni, Tasciovanus, gold Stater, c.25 BC-AD 09, Tascio Ricon type. Obv. TASCI / RICON within double panel over vertical wreath, two pellets either side. Rev. Warrior, holding shield and spear on horseback charging left, pellet in ring of pellets below. 5.53g, die axis 12h (ABC 2580; S.219; DK 517 (plate coin)). Small flan crack at 10 o’clock on the obverse and corresponding part to reverse and the reverse a little off centre; this not detracting however from this otherwise delightful and lustrous Stater, the horse and warrior in high relief, the obverse well centered and bold, a desirable coin with significant eye appeal. Rare in this condition.
