Charles I (1625-1649), silver Half-Pound, 1642, Oxford mint, provincial issues and coinages of the English Civil War (1642-1649), ‘Declaration’ issue, m.m. Plume on obverse only. Obv. King on horseback facing left, crowned holding sword, canon and arms on groundline, Oxford plume in field behind. Rev. Declaration in two lines at centre between ruled lines, date below, three Oxford plumes above, mark of value below middle plume. 57.79g, die axis 12h (S.2945; North 2404; Brooker 868 (same dies)). The obverse double struck however of an overall even strike, an impressive and imposing coin with good detail and a pleasing deep colourful cabinet tone, very attractive in hand, these large Civil War pieces always desirable, especially so in this condition. Good very fine or better. With old ticket.
