Charles I (1625-1649), silver Groat, 1644, Oxford mint, provincial issues and coinages of the English Civil War (1642-1649), ‘Declaration’ type, m.m. floriated cross on obverse only. Obv. Crowned ‘Oxford’ bust facing left wearing rounded lace collar, plumelet before, mark of value in roman numerals behind. Rev. Shrewsbury plume with lis either side, declaration below above date and OX, lozenge in legend before EXVRGAT. 2.02g, die axis 9h (S.2985; North 2461/2; Brooker 956 same dies). Toned with a pleasing portrait. A bold very fine.
