Charles I (1625-1649), silver Shilling (Siege Piece), 1645, Newark mint (Beseiged), siege piece coinages of The English Civil War (1645-1649). Obv. Large arched crown between ‘CR’, value of XII below. Rev. OBS / NEWARK / 1645 6.01g, die axis 12h (S.3142; North 2640). Some weakness of strike and lightly double struck to obverse, nonetheless well centered on both sides on a broad flan with beautiful deep golden grey toning, a truly exceptional survivor of this popular coinage. Rare in this state. Slabbed and graded by NGC as AU58.
