Eadgar (959-975), silver Penny, 959-973, moneyer Fastolf, pre-reform coinage (before 973), small cross either side, BMC IV. Obv. Small cross pattée at centre within inner circle, EADGAR REX surrounding. Rev. Small cross pattée, FASTOLF MO I surrounding. 1.15g, die axis 8h (S.1134; North 748). Very light crease mark, otherwise of sound metal, toned with a nicely rounded flan. About very fine.
Note; the abbreviation of MONEYER on this example appears as MO I (rather than MO T) which is likely the result of a broken die (also explaining the extra metal above the ‘I’), however other examples have been noted as ‘MO I’ – this abbreviation being somewhat unusual.
