Edward III (1327-1377), gold Noble, 1369-1377, Calais mint, fourth coinage, post-treaty period (1369-1377), Central E with pellet, on reverse, m.m. Cross Potent on reverse only. Obv. King standing facing in ship, holding sword and shield, flag at stern, single saltire stops. Rev. Floriate cross with lis at ends within tressure of eight arcs, crowned lions in angles, fleurs in spandrels, large ‘E’ and pellet in centre. 7.66g, die axis 2h (S.1521; North 1281). Centrally struck on good metal, lightly toned with a pleasing portrait of the King, an increasing popular and highly collected denomination. Slabbed and graded by NGC as MS62.
