Edward The Confessor (1042-1066), silver Penny, 1053-1056, Winchester mint, moneyer Estan, Pointed Helmet type, BMC VII. Obv. Draped and bearded bust facing right, wearing pointed helmet and holding sceptre. Rev. Voided short cross with tri-crescent terminals, pellet in annulet at centre 1.27g, die axis 6h (S.1179). Some small traces of green and blue verdigris on the reverse, otherwise with a beautiful old antique tone, the strike bold and even with a pleasing portrait, an excellent example and becoming difficult to find in this condition. Choice extremely fine.

Formerly slabbed and graded by NGC as MS62 with accompanying slab ticket.
