George I (1714-1727), silver Proof Farthing, 1717, ‘Dump’ issue, struck on a thick flan, rev. struck en médaille, edge plain. Obv. Laureate and cuirassed bust facing right. Rev. Britannia seated facing left, date in exergue. 6.82g, die axis 12h (Peck 785). Small mark by chin under magnification, nonetheless a sumptuous coin, lightly toned over brilliant fields, the portrait bold and well struck up, a desirable coin and seldom seen, especially so in this condition. Good extremely fine and rare.
