George III (1760-1820), gold Guinea, 1788, early coinages, ‘Spade’ type, 7 strings to harp, 7 hearts, Type H/5, edge milled vertically. Obv. Fifth laureate head facing right. Rev. Crowned shield of arms, date split by crown. 8.38g, die axis 12h (S.3729; EGC 713). Despite a few minor hairlines, a delightful example with lustrous fields with flashes of mint brilliance – especially so on the reverse, pleasing in hand. A bold good very fine or better.
