George IV (1820-1830), copper Farthing, 1825, first issue (1821-1826), Obverse 1, leaf ribs raised, IIII / II, the IIII with the 3rd and 4th I’s over struck, the 3rd I over a left tilted I, the 4th I over a lower I, broken upper serif on 1 of date, edge plain. Obv. Laureate and draped bust facing left. Rev. Britannia seated facing right, date in exergue. 4.84g, die axis 6h (S.3822; Peck 1414). A rich, deep attractive red-brown tone over lustrous fields, an interesting variety. Choice uncirculated and the variety presumed rare.
Formerly slabbed and graded (now removed from slab) by CGS UK as 85 (Choice UNC – BU), with accompanying slab ticket.
