Henry VIII (1509-1547), gold Angel, 1509-1526, London (Tower) mint, first coinage, with h and rose, m.m. portcullis crowned/portcullis crowned. Obv. St. Michael slaying dragon, head breaking beaded inner circle. Rev. Ship sailing right, with bow sprit, shield of arms at centre, H and rose above. 5.06g, die axis 5h (S.2265; North 1760). Small flan furl at 3 o’clock and a few light contact marks for completeness, nonetheless, an evenly struck piece, on a full and round flan with pleasingly clear legends, lightly toned, a highly desirable coin in the current market. Slabbed and graded by NGC as AU55.
