Iceni, Unknown Ruler, gold Stater, c.15 BC-AD 5, Freckenham Cross type, Die Group 3 Obv. Die C Rev. Die 9. Obv. Cross of pellets, the central pellet surrounded by ring. Rev. Horse facing right, corded motif above, two pellets in each sector, pelleted ring behind, eight-spoked wheel below. 5.56g, (ABC 1420; John Talbot ‘Made For Trade’ (p178 for type)). The reverse a little off centre as is usual for this type, else the details bold and in high relief, the metal a pleasing pale gold in colour with underlying lustre, a desirable and pleasing example of this highly sought after type.
