James I (1603-1625), silver Halfgroat, 1603-1604, London (Tower) mint, first coinage (1603-1604), m.m. thistle/thistle. Obv. First bust, crowned facing right, mark of value behind. Rev. Squared-topped shield of arms, initial mark above. 1.00g, die axis 2h (S.2649). Some weakness, otherwise with a pleasing cabinet tone. Good very fine.
