Victoria (1837-1901), silver Proof Sixpence, 1853, ‘Young Head’ coinage (1838-1887), Type A1, edge milled vertically. Obv. Young head facing left. Rev. Crowned ‘SIX PENCE’ within wreath (no die number), date below. 2.84g, die axis 6h (S.3908; Bull 3190). Just the slightest hint of cabinet friction to the high points otherwise with a lovely deep grey tone – fashioning a cameo affect for the queen’s head, the fields with flashes of underlying mint brilliance, a delectable example. Virtually as struck and rated ‘R2’ – very rare.
