Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1857, ‘Young Head’ coinage (1838-1887), 57 over lower 57, both A’s in GRATIA only partly barred, WW incuse on truncation, shield on reverse with repositioned legend, edge milled vertically. Obv. Second ‘large’ young head facing left, date below. Rev. Crowned shield of arms within wreath, emblems below. 7.99g, die axis 6h (S.3852D; Marsh 40A, lower 57 unlisted). A few light hairlines, otherwise lightly toned with lustre, a pleasing coin. Rare variant. Slabbed and graded by NGC as AU58.
