William I (1066-1087), silver Penny, 1066-1154, Taunton mint, moneyer Aelfwine, Paxs type. Obv. Diademed and Crowned bust facing with sceptre. Rev. Cross pattée with an annulet containing one letter of the PAXS in each quarter. 1.38g, die axis 12h (S.1257; North 848; Mack 1453 (same dies)). Attractively toned and pleasing in hand. Good very fine and very rare.
