William III (1694-1702), silver Crown, 1695, London (Tower) mint, first bust (first year of issue), 6 strings to the early harp, edge OCTAVO. Obv. Laureate and draped bust facing left. Rev. Crowned cruciform shields, angles plain, date split by English crown. 30g, die axis 6h (S.3470; Bull 991). A delightful light steely grey tone and much underlying brilliance, the haymarking that often plaques coins of this issue is very light indeed and barely visible with the naked eye, a lovely coin in hand. A choice example.
Slabbed and graded by NGC as MS 63.
