William III (1694-1702), silver Shilling, 1696B, Bristol mint, small ‘x’ in REX, m.m. B on obverse only, edge milled diagonally. Obv. First laureate and draped bust facing right, B below. Rev. Crowned cruciform shields, Lion of Nassau in centre, angles plain, date split by English crown. 6.06g, die axis 6h (S.3498; Bull 1159). A pleasing deep grey tone with golden flashes in the legends, much underlying lustre, a desirable coin. Choice extremely fine and rated ‘S’ – scarce by Bull. Slabbed and graded by NGC as MS61.
