William III (1694-1702), silver Sixpence, 1696y, York mint, first bust, early harp, large crowns, ‘y’ in script, m.m. y on obverse only, edge milled diagonally. Obv. First laureate and draped bust facing right, y below. Rev. Crowned cruciform shields, Lion of Nassau in centre, angles plain, date split by English crown. 3.12g, die axis 6h (S.3525; Bull 1296). A delightful example, beautifully toned with flashes of underlying mint brilliance, problem free and desirable. Choice good extremely fine.
